So i just got back to Michigan from Tennessee - where i spent three months taking care of my G-Ma before she passed - and it's strange 'coming back'. So my question is this:

What have you done for yourself lately?

The vacation you told yourself you would take. Did you? Why not?

Im back at university, doing my tasks and preparing on tomorrow laboratory practises..
The exams were too difficult and too broad to take a vacation.. So I feel a bit tired and burned-out..
I miss my friends.. :( And I feel sad about your G-ma.. Let the machines work out loudly to pay a tribute to her..

I'm currently saving up to quit my job and backpack the world for 6-12 months.  Might be a few years before I get there, but that's the plan.  (We all know how planning works out)

I plan to reduce the cost by couchsurfing, so generally accommodations will be "free".  My expenses will be food and getting around, and time, and the trip duration will be limited by funds, or if I'm done, so to speak.

I have some other short term goals, and things that I want, but really, I'm so far convinced that I want to do this, that it will really influence what I do until I get there.

I totally understand how you feel.  You'll get through it soon enough - be sure to take mental health days, you'll thank yourself for it later.

Ive been doing not a lot.

Ive decided to quit my current study by the end of this year, so I dropped a lot of subjects that didnt interest me.
I got enough credits to go to uni (I did college) so Im going to check which uni to apply for and Ive gotta choose between European Studies and History. Still not sure which one to pick.
The idea is to get my Bachelor here in Holland so I can finish my Master in Germany, as going straight for my Bachelor in Germany is simply to difficult for me to achieve.

I am feeling a bit down though, due to all the stress of making important decisions and burning bridges behind me. I could seriously use a long vacation =)

Why is the bachelor degree in Germany harder to achieve?

As a foreign student you need to do this German language skill test. And with my German skills I need like 6 months of intensive training before I stand a chance on passing that test on the required level.

And then doing a pretty intelectual study right away, it might be to much, and it would result in me loosing all my money and failing it anyways. So, now Im going to do my Bachelor here, sign up for as much foreign exchange programs with Germany as possible, and getting support from a Dutch university to do my master in Germany. Also gives me more time to study German in my free time through summer schools at German universities and maybe courses like that Rosetta stone program.

EDIT: if you ever plan on visiting Holland and you need a couch, let me know :P

Ok, I didn't think about the language thing.  Admittedly, being from the U.S. I, as do most Americans I'd presume, tend to take language requirements for domestic universities for granted.  There are a lot of foreign students that come through who have to learn English to stand a chance.  I just showed up, ready to rock and roll!

You have two years left for your Bachelors?

I knew about it as well, I just underestimated it....a lot. Well, it doesnt matter, whats impossible or just very impracticable is just that, nothing will change that. And this way gives me more time to prepare properly anyways, as well as it gives me some more options if I fail. Its better this way.

And I got 3 years left for my Bachelor.
