Well the boss just asked me to work overtime and wouldn't you know it as soon as I go to put my headphones back on they break. I think the solder probably broke off the back of the right speaker. Anyway they are over 5 years old so I figured it is time to get a new set. I currently have Grado SR60's and was thinking of upgrading to the SR80's. Anybody have some good suggestions for headphones in a cube farm environment?

Sennheiser HD580, although they are open air so they might piss off your co-workers a bit. I never found the Grado headphones very comfortable.

Got a cheapish pair of JVC HA-FX33s. In-ear gel ear buds. Not the best headphones I've ever owned (hell, not the best headphones I own now), but extremely portable, decent sound and they do an outstanding job of blocking out ambient noise, due to the fact that they're essentially earplugs with speakers.

Damn, i'm using some cheap ass Coby earbuds that I picked up for $2 at a local truck stop. Not the best, but they work just fine for me.

My Grado's were open air, I always liked the sound better. Well I brought my wife's headphones in today Sennheiser HD205. These are sealed, which my wife likes, but they aren't very comfortable, IMO. They press to hard against my ears, I might just not be used to the circumaural style. I would love to go some place and just try on a boat load of cans but I've never seen a store that let you do that. I can't even find a brick and mortar store with a decent selection of headphones.

I've always favoured my AKG 240 headphones, they are a little too heavy for work use perhaps, but they sound really good! Otherwise, I use a pair of Koss UR40 phones which I think are good enough for work (and also sealed so you don't disturb colleagues).

I have the HD580s at home and they were always comfortable for me for extended periods. They don't touch your ears at all (unless your ears are massive.)

Ok, I got to looking and the HD205 are consider an on-the-ear design and the HD580 are an over-the-ear design. The HD580 are discontinued though. The AKG240 do look nice but I am thinking about the HD555, they have a little better review at headphone.com. So Shirow if you couldn't get the HD580 what would you get or should I try to find the HD580?

HD 595 looks pretty good, and Senheisser usually makes good products. Pretty nice frequency response for that headphone as well. Sounds like a good choice, although a little too expensive for work perhaps :)

I think newegg.com still has 580's in stock, they were about $150 when I got them. I haven't tried any other Sennheisers but I'm sure the 595's would be nice.

I can't imagine spending that much money on headphones. I'd much rather spend $150 on something more fun....like a new pair of Dr. Martens!

if you like music, $150 isn't much for something to listen to them on

Yeah, probably. Men tend to enjoy acquiring audio/video equipment for some reason, makes them feel important or something I guess :)
I have spent over $2k already on 2 speakers and a sub for my living room.. my wife thinks it is pretty insane, but I figure, I listen to music or watch movies at least 2-3 hours every day.. so spread over time, it's a pretty good investment.
That is, assuming you can even tell the difference.. a friend of mine can't hear the diff between my speakers and his set that was $300 for 5.1 in a box.. some people have a snobbish attitude about such things, but I wish I was like him.. would save me a lot of money.
