Got it, but might have been a mistake - wasn't in the mood for this kind of game now (not sure if I ever am),  so I've played it for maybe 2 1/2 minutes...

hard to say what I think of it based on that... :/

i was really excited about this game from the previews, it looked like the game had a lot to offer, and i was a really big fan of all the previous dawn of war games, but after seeing the reviews of this game on gametrailers.com I was a little dissapointed about the lack of content. First and foremost, no base building, now dawn of war was never about base building, it was always about unit combat, but still strategic base and defense placement on the maps was a crucial part. Second, DOW 2 drastically reduces the ammount of units u can control. This goes completely against everything DOW is supposed to stand for, a strategy game with HUGE ammounts of units across the map locked in perpetual combat until the war of attrition is won. And finally DOW takes a big step back from the playable races, now only 4 in multiplayer and you can only play as the space marines in campaign mode, where as in previous versions there were a total of 9 playable races and many more maps to play on. The graphics upgrade is not worth the content reduction, I think i will wait until a expansion comes out for this before i concider buying it.

Hmmm, huge amount of units? 100 max in the previous versions. Unless you used that Necron glitch in Dark Crusade. And even the background is a lot better this time. Space marines, especially Blood Ravens, try to stay clear of attrition wars. Mainly because they lack the rescources for one. Seeing how a chapter only consists of 1000 marines and dreadnaughts are pretty rare I always found it kinda lame I had like a whole army consisting of dreadnaughts and used much more then 1000 battle brothers over the course of the entire campaign. Imperial guards are the ones you need for long drawn out conflicts with huge defensive lines and bases.

And really, the first game also had just 4 races and only the space marines playable in the campaign. The other 5 where added over the course of 3 expansion packs. Im pretty sure that Reliq will release several more expansions.

Im glad this game stays much closer to the Warhammer universe and that you need some tactics to win instead of just having more units with bigger guns and swords then your opponents.

Bump.

Alright bought the game. Tried to install it. But thanks to steam and probably Games for Windows Live I cant play the fucking game. Who on earth decided that people who buy their games in a shop legally should be punished with a monstrosity like steam that only works for me half of the time.

I wanna play the game I payed 45 euros for, and not wait till some guy from the helpdesk have time to awnser my question of why I cant play my game and how I can fix it.

ya, steam sucks a big one most of the time, and really its a shame that game companies are using steam to distribute and activate their products, but this has been the result of alot of piracy and stuff like that so it is understandable the precautions, but trust me i know the feeling of installing a game just to find out that i cant play it.

Yay I finally got it to work.

It was my virus scanner. It was constantly deleting a file that Dow needed to finnish the installation.

Anyways, Ive played it and I can only say its awesome. Yeah you play with a small squad. Only this time you care about your squads because they got their own personality. And you still got big battles. Only you got 4 squads and your enemy got a load more. But the nicest thing is that they dont keep respawning in most battles.

the only thing Im not so happy about is the fact that I keep playing on the same maps. Just different parts of it. But that does feel a little cheap reusing the same maps. So far Ive only played on 5 maps in the campaign.

Gonna pick it up pretty soon. Loved the way the original made my subwoofer sound in DOW/WA/DC/SS.

Can't wait to shake the house again.
