OK here is the deal I'm in need of a new computer and some new software and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations. Now the software that I have been using for my music is Acid Pro 4.0 and Fruity Loops and I was wondering what other programs are out their and what others are using. I've had people recommend Abelton and Cubase. The music I do is a little bit of everything, from Industrial to EBM to Sythnpop and i even dabble into Drum an Bass. So if you have any recommendations please let me know.

notebook or desktop?  Costco probably has the best deals on notebooks!  As for desktops, there are too many options to consider!

agree with abelton.

I'm mainly use Ableton Live, although I still use Cubase every now and then. I prefer Ableton Live though. Very modular way of working. I recommend you try out the demo of Live. It's a fully working version for 14 days. It comes with a guide that is really good on how to get started with Live.

I've used Live to compose and record everything from acoustic music to the harshest industrial.

I use a combination of Cubase SX 5 and Ableton Live 7, Both very versatile programs
and very different from each other.

Cubase can be compared to other host/sequencers such as Logic Audio & Digital Performer
in the sense most studios use them for professional mastering and mixing as well as remix and sequencing. The new version offers so much more, So if you're gonna do this get v5 or go 'Live' IMO.

Ableton Live is another world to me, where you can just take anything and
completely improvise upon it.. very inspirational and a musicians best friend.
The way most use it is for Live mode which lets you trigger loop's as "Clips"
and it seamlessly blends every instrument in exact tempo making it simple
to arrange a whole track on the fly. Also very handy for beat-matching / DJing.

They both work in different ways, But both very good choices if you are looking
to get into producing your own oontz.

I see a great deal of electronic musicians using Ableton right now.
I must be too traditionalist, I use a macbook and Logic for all my music.  It is not the best for composition, but I usually lay that stuff out with a cheap multitrack.  I use a great deal of hardware though, I prefer the tactile feel of all the hardware, and just do the sequencing and everything in any sequencing software.
