For some reason i think i got my first DG sticker in an order from Metropolis. Pretty sure that's how i first got tuned in here years ago. Is this the case or am i remembering an alternate reality again? i still have at least a dozen from my more financially stable says where i could buy new shite at the drop of a hat. Used to have them on my work van - but then working in construction one was almost expected to have his personal ride plastered in something - now i sport it on my tower. Simple spliced with elegance rammed with technology.....

215  General / Song Requests/Complaints / Songs not played by database artists on: December 11, 2009, 12:20:24 am
Yes, i know the name of the thread is somewhat sanitary or clinical but ....
Since you (Shirow) are so inundated with song/artist requests, perhaps a little breakdown will assist...

i propose this thread (feel free to rename it more apropos) where we can ask for particular songs off of a particular album to be put in the database. You (Shirow) can do with it as you will. Don't want to create more work for you, quite the opposite actually. But mayhap a Thumbs or rating tag is too much to ask? Anyway the point is to let listeners voice their wants regarding albums that are featured, yet some desired songs are left in limbo.

Yes, i recognize the fact that you (Shirow) have said that you only put tracts on that you consider congruent with DG's soul - however transient that may be - but i would like to say that i, and perhaps others, think there are some that fit that are left out.

And once again i say yes, i also realize that you have stated that you won't put every track of an album in rotation, because, if you like that damn album so much go buy it and listen to it...<--paraphrasing at its worst. Yet i agree.

The thing is, and this is only my few pennies, i listen to DG 90% of my auditory time, and though i LOVE to hear that which i have not before, once in a while i like to hear some things i really love. i have been surprised many a time by DG's playlist and am not ashamed to say, yet i also love the fact that i hear some 'ol favs here and there. And if it is a pain where the randomization is concerned...how about a 'request only' database or some such? Where listeners could suggest tracts not in the DB to be put in a separate one for only requests? That way the general DG play would only be affected the same way that 2 songs played by the same artist happen in the course of an hour as happens sometimes now (and in no way am i bitching about that). Just some thoughts...now i turn it over to the public....

*i reserve the right to suggest some after others have done so as to not seem the overt douchebag i might be painting myself as*

Is there a regular fee though? i will admit, it's why i started in on Guild Wars 3 years ago; no monthly fee after you buy the game. And i've come to like the mythos. i've met some good people, met some really shitty people (humanity has a wide range of stupidity mixed with arrogance and ignorance to offer) and had some good times. But one thing that is frustrating is that it is oft overrun with kids making me feel like an old man yelling at them to get off my lawn. And i hate that response, but it happens.

So the exam was an epic 3-hour beat down.  I could hear Carmina Burana going the entire time.

Anyway, I love my pencil, ugly or not.

Here's to hoping it went well! So was that your inside jukebox playing Orff, or was it seriously in the background?

What's beneficial to a pencil about having it's insides smeared all over a piece of paper?

It gets to share and reveal said insides with the rest of creation. What better path to immortality?  :P

That's some interesting info. Again i assume it's the admin's privilege to access it. Could be interesting to make a thread or something and post that page monthly?

It's actually a link at the bottom of the forum on the front page. I just never noticed it.

Ha! Just noticed that myself as well. Guess i never scrolled that far down before!

You mean as the lord god of DG, it doesn't tell you whodunnit? And how do you see something like that? Or is it just within the powers of the admin? And if you do know/find out who they are, don't wanna be in their shoes. If i were them i would start being wary of large non-flying avians. Look on the bright side though; at least you still have a huge karma...

I don't know if you can see it, if I go into my profile page it automagically lets me do things like change my karma etc. Maybe you can see yours and not change it?

Either way it shows me my applauds and smites and it shows me having 2 smites. I could've deleted them but, you know what, if I deserved to be smited then I will let them stay.

Nope, us lowly ones don't get that on our profile, just tells us our karma rating, not it's breakdown. Not that it matters.

Yeah, i can only conclude that that is it. And since it was (as i had a frontal lobe flatulence and for some reason forgot all my conversion math skills since i said i wasn't sure how to interpret .82 mbps) well over 800 kbps i should have been fine. No problems so far tonight.

That is an ugly pencil.

Sometimes it's the ugly pencils that work the hardest for you....because they know they are ugly and you make them feel special by keeping them...   ;P

That's not a very nice reason for loving something!

who said anything about loving...i was talking about a mutually beneficial usership  =D
224  General / General Discussion / Re: The worst song in the world? on: December 09, 2009, 08:34:41 pm
this one  is  bad  its even if it is a  joke song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqXi8WmQ_WM&feature=fvw

=o   i have to admit i actually like Lajoie's stuff, but then i am a tremendous admirer of satire used as social commentary. And barring seeing and appreciating the parody of it, sometimes de-evolved humor is just plain damn funny =D
225  General / Off Topic Discussion / Re: trying to quit... on: December 09, 2009, 08:09:24 pm
thank everyone that has been giving me advice, its day 3 sans nicotine, and I am feeling a bit better just passed my PT (physical training) test with a 265 (35 pts from being perfect) and I am seeing a difference already. my run time was 1615 for 2 miles with it usually being 12-20 seconds higher. TY all, now all I have to do is fight off the hand/mouth cravings and I will be good for good.

Here's to hoping you are staying on task for yourself. Figured i'd throw in my own couple of cents...

i smoked regularly (1/2 - 1 pack menthols a day) for about 10 years. Back in '06 when i got laid off for the first time i decided to cut some expenses and perhaps more importantly try to work on myself to be more 'marketable' since my divorce. But i digress. i quit cold turkey and started running again. It sucked a lot but i love running and it's bio-neural effects are also good for man-handling depression into some manageable recesses. i've slipped over the years here and there but usually only for maybe up to a week and under great amounts of stress. My biggest hurdle is that when i am very intoxicated and around others that are smoking i will still occasionally indulge in one or two. And let me tell you i feel it the next day. But then i tend toward self punishment as a driving force. i've read that the craving never actually goes 100% away for your whole life.

i used to stress about smoking, then not smoking. i've been radically for and opposed at times. Now i just don't care. It doesn't bother me that some places are totally smoke free nor that if i want to go to a bar or club i'd better be prepared to suck down some second hand. And if i have one or two here or there, i don't beat myself up about it anymore. After all the stress of worrying over it is itself as damaging to your body in other ways. And as much as i'd like to, i know i'm not going to live forever.

Also i just want to say, i don't know how you military types do it. i've known a few people in the services over the years that smoke regularly and you still manage to perform your PT within parameters? Like i said, i have even one and i feel it the next run. But then i guess if your body is conditioned to it, you get used to it.

And if you need the ultimate psyche-up for quitting just think of the prices now. i've heard they are $9 a pack in NY and where i live, near Detroit, they are almost $7.

Lastly and most importantly, thank you for your service. Stay safe.
