Im leaning towards Depeche Mode on this one, with their longevity and also they are the pioneers of the genre, moreover in terms of success i feel that they trump And One, but that is my opinion and it may be skewed because i am an american, while And One has a good following i feel that support for Depeche mode is greater here in the states. but I want to know what you all think

Is Depeche mode actually 'Synth Pop'?

I thought they where closer to electronic rock then anything else....

And because I dont think they are Synth Pop Ill go with And One.

I really like both bands, so it’s really a close call for me, but I have to go with Depeche Mode.

I agree that they were true pioneers in the genre, and I think their influence on the modern synthpop scene is pretty obvious. However,  my perspective is also skewed by the fact I’m an American. I would imagine that Europeans probably see it a bit differently.

This is kind of a terrible question.

Reason 1: Depeche Mode were in their own time, they are more likely to be paired
with the likes of Erasure. (and even then, the vote will go to DM in terms of success
and influential credit)

Reason 2: And One mimicked DAF (Deutsch American Freundschaft ..or whatever)

Reason 3: All of the bands you listen to most likely were listening to Depeche Mode
and getting their ass beat in high school.

My opinion is by far Depeche Mode. Most of their song is strong enough to be the single hit of any one hit wonder.

Anyway, I think it was kinda an odd choice - there's so many synthpop band - and And One is a synthpop/EBM crossover.

There's barely any electronic band, in the range from synthpop, darkwave, techno, ebm, new industrial, futurepop, electropop, regular pop and so on, that isn't strongly influenced by Depeche Mode.

Other modern or classic synthpop (or synthpop-like) bands that could be mentioned are:
- A-ha
- Alphaville
- Assemblage 23 (kind of)
- Deine Lakaien
- De/Vision
- The Echoing Green
- Erasure
- Iris
- Opium
- Pet Shop Boys
- S.P.O.C.K
- Syrian
- Urceus Exit
- Wolfsheim
- Wave In Head

what kind of ridiculous comparison is this ?

as rayzr said, And One is categorized as EBM/Synthpop while Depeche Mode is English Electronic/New Wave.

Depeche Mode is most comparable to Art of Noise, Erasure, New Order or even, Pet Shop Boys from whichever years those bands style was most predominant in the UK and maybe the US. (early 80's)

In the other hand you have And One which at early stages was comparable to DeVision, DavaNtage, T.O.Y, Neuroticfish, Colony 5, Terminal Choice, and many other popular bands of its time in Germany and parts of western europe which are characterized with more modern but darker (perhaps industrial influenced) beats.

Just because both bands use synthesized cords, is rather ignorant to compare the double-beat-ground rhythm which is almost iconic to that of most EBM bands.

Yeah, lets compare Carmina Burana to Mozart while we're at it ...

Its really difficult to say, which of them is better..

And one has new ideas, their clips and music are interesting but Depeche Mode is a legend...

Maybe And One become also one.. in a few time.. They definitely have qualification.
