If you could change something about the stream, what would it be?

You asked for it...

I've been listening to your feed for several years now and I get introduced to a lot of good new songs to DJ from your site. I have however noticed (recently) a lot more screamy, gas-voiced "Terrorcorps" music being played and since I work from home a lot, I find I have to turn it off sometimes and play my own music (which is influenced by yours). I don't want to be screamed at when I listen to music (I had enough of that as a kid and by my ex's). I can tolerate it, but I'm asking for less of it. I like to understand the lyrics I'm listening to and as an old-school rivethead, I'm not impressed with Terrorcorps.

Make it take way less bandwidth.

For the most part, Digital Gunfire indeed kicks ass. However, I'm not fond of music wherein the main component is men (or women) screaming / groaning / gasping in a fair approximation of (a) white noise and/or (b) very angry people being tortured horribly to death. It does seem like these sorts of tracks are more common of late than in years gone by.

I'm not sure if DigitalTiger is referring to the same thing with 'screamy, gas-voiced "Terrorcorps" music', but several tracks just played exemplify the problem:
- Cruciform Injection - Comatose
- Fractured - Breaking Glass
- Electro Synthetic Rebellion - The Battle Has Begun
- Psycho Bitch (aptly named--I instantly click on over to Limbik Frequencies whenever she starts wailing)
- Tom Waits (OK, so he's not on DG--ever. But he's a groaner, not a singer.)

One might argue that, say, some tracks by Noise Unit or Front Line Assembly also fit in this category--or Kevorkian Death Cycle's "Babylon"--but the crucial difference is their gravelly, raspy lyrics never overpower the rest of the sound: the unmusicality of their singing never swamps the musicality of their composition and instrumental performance.

I listen to DG for powerful, engaging EBM/industrial/futurepop tunes, not annoyingly raw noise. If I want raw noise, there's always the leaf blowers outside, or any of a number of stations playing what passes for punk these days (no flames, please), or some of the more enthusiatic political talk shows on TV... give us more VNV Nation, Covenant, Negative Format, Mentallo and the Fixer, X Marks the Pedwalk, Pulse Legion, FLA, Noise Unit, and their ilk; less Psycho Bitch, Android Lust, Andraculoid, and similar agonized screamers.

Thanks for asking. And now I'll go don my fireproof underdrawers...  <grin>

While I originally didn't care if there was a low-fi stream or not, now that I have unlimited GPRS and can listen to low-fi streams on my phone, I care. :p

Other than that, I have no problems with DG, other than the occasional glitch, like the hour of Icon of Coil where 15 seconds of one song got stuck on repeat. :p

I think it was actually a remix of Shallow Nation, but I don't really remember.

personaly i like DG as it is, even with the screamy music which i just ignore for the time being
i can see others getting distracted/disturbed though and wouldnt mind if the stream remaind *simply* ebm, future pop and synth stuff

im not sure where the idea of 'improving' comes from though, you have a vast number of regular listeners, people who submit posts, pictures, etc
why would you want to tweak something to death when it is ok as it is, or did i miss something?
besides, you know what they say: "never change a winning concept"

for the chat, i was wondering if IRC is maybe too geeky, i cannot install an irc client on the work computer and the web-based irc applet messes up with safari
besides, most poeple on IRC are just idling as well, there has been a time of *chats* but that was so random i might not be there (which i am not anymore)
if you'd want to add/change something, how about a web-based chat ?
it would be easy to just host something on pjj.cc ?
i could take charge of it, since i like their chat applet

Here we combine theory and practice.
Nothing works and no one knows why.

I'd just like to keep expanding the station and improving it. If there's something I can make better, I'd like to. Seems like so far the only complaint is too much music with loud/distorted lyrics.

Yeah, it might be that I'm getting old, but I've noticed that I usually tune in to something else when the channel gets too distorted. In other words, I too prefer a "more (or at least mostly) ebm, future pop and synth" approach.

[edit] Oh, I should add that I do enjoy some distorted stuff. Currently, Decoded Feedback - Sacrilege is playing, and I like that song. I'm just not fond of the stuff that raises your pulse in an unnatural way (i.e. high BPM and 'sound' that makes me wonder if my sound card just broke) :)

I vote low-fi stream availability    : )
I probably won't need it after January though.
