How about a show?  Like a half hr radio show about the new music on the stream and the bands.  Seems like there would be a way to get it to fit such as the length of the show, how often you do a new show, how many times a show gets repeated on the air.  You should be able to find more then enough things to report on.  (new music, new bands, tour dates, how you feel).

I don't know about an on air show, but a DG podcast would be pretty sweet.

I'd be willing to help out with that.

i like those screamy people, aesthetic perfection, android lust, tactical sekt, psyclon nine, amduscia, agnoize, tamtrum noisurf-x and so on. i enjoy noise too, pal, terrorfakt, kiew, soman, converter, winterkälte, c\a\t and so forth. i'd enjoy hearing these on the stream. don't think i'm with the majority on this one though : /

I like the noise too, as long as it's not constant.  Too much of it turns into an unmusical "barrage", and then it's just numbing and boring.

So I hope you don't go crazy and eliminate all the noise; just continue to make sure that the X-Fusion and Fiendflug are balanced with Delerium and Virtual Server (for example).

agreed, i like a wide spread of music, not limited to what i just posted before. if anything were replaced by what's already being played it would just seem like something is missing

So those of you that like the noisier stuff - do you feel the balance is good right now?

I too enjoy the "noisier" stuff.  It's a pretty big part of the scene right now, after all someone keeps releasing cds by these type of artists, so taking it off would be a disservice to your listeners in my opinion.  And can also agree that it's better in the small doses as compared to a barrage.

I agree with the idea of a "show."  It would be a great way to preview new music.  Which is one of the reasons I listen.

Another idea for new music, would be say to put up information about albums you were thinking of adding, and have people vote as to what to put on the stream.

One other idea would be to add more compilations if that's possible.
That way there will be many different artists added from one cd.

kicks ass as is Shirow, a poll or something about what new compilations to add would be fun if someone has the time to do so or has the resources to add new compilations. i don't want to tell you to go get something from a list i made, but if we all gave out ideas and agreed on a new compilation to add i think it would be great, if people want to throw out ideas, and if Shirow will take them

Suggestion:  A prime-time dancable set? Maybe two seperate streams?

As I said before, my set is influenced by Digital Gunfire (which is my favorite stream) and I remember when I could hear a lot more dancable stuff. Not that a lot of it is dancable but I wouldn't have known about Mind.In.A.Box, Sieze or Syrian had it not been for DG.

Re: Prior comment about Gas-Voice... it's not all bad, it's just that the majority of bands that sing in gas-voice just rail into it and have little to no melodic change or breakdown.

and yes... I am using Traktor

A "show" might be kinda cool, especially as a promotional tool.  And the possibilities are limitless.

You could designate an hour-long slot each week where there's a "theme" (love, betrayal, animals, drugs, whatever) and all the songs fall in that theme somehow, even if it's just a vague mention in the lyrics.  (That's kinda gimmicky and a lot of work with little payoff, but keep reading, it evolves).

Or better yet, you could have a "featured artist" whose songs are played heavily (including their sideprojects, etc).

Or even better, you could have a "featured DJ" where maybe a member of one band sends you an audio-clip intro/extro (a mini-interview of sorts) and a playlist of their own favorite songs, and then you just queue THAT playlist up instead of the usual random sequence, during that designated hour.

The cool thing about having a celebrity do it is that they'd probably announce it in their myspace blog and their fansites, exposing their fans to an awesome web station that they never would've heard of otherwise.

Okay, my brain is turned on now and it just won't stop.

Here's another idea for a "show"; it requires some up-front work (writing some scripts or a plug-in of some sort, I imagine), but after that it's all hands-free automated.

For an hour every Wednesday, you could have "B-side Wednesdays" where the random playlist generator filtered out anything that didn't have "exclusive" or "unreleased" or "b-side" somewhere in the title, album, or description (for example).

And every "Remix Monday" would have an hour of nothing but songs with "(.*mix.*)" in the title or filename.
(You could hand-tweak it each week for something more specific like ".*mix by Virtual Server", or Scattenschlag+Combichrist, or whatever combination has an hour's worth or remixes in your MP3 collection.)

"Saturday Night Dance Party" would filter out anything that didn't have "dance" or "extended.*mix" in the title or filename.

P.S. don't forget to repeat the show a couple times a day; once for each hemisphere.
P.P.S. if you have any sort of "usage tracking" for the stream, you may want to schedule these "shows" during a timeslot with traditionally low usage; that will minimize the number of regular listeners saying "aww crap, it's Remix Monday time", and coerce occasional listeners into tuning in at times they normally wouldn't.

I like both these ideas.  I also know that "featured DJ" is awesome because it has quotes around it and it's bold and italic, must be really important.

P.S. Sorry rskm1, I just had flashbacks of my English teacher yelling at me.

You know, I've actually wanted to do a show for a really long time. It's just SO HARD for me now that I've had a kid and everything.. the little free time I have I normally have other shit I need to do :\ I am going to put some thought into it though.

BTW, people asking for a lo-fi stream, your wish is granted.

Should save a lot of BW being mono and it still sounds decent.

That's fucking hot!

I'm gonna listen to DG all the time now. I don't even have to stop listening when I'm not at a computer anymore! :D
