Okay, I'm kind of new to making music. Currently, the only recording software I have is Audacity (the free version). It works great for recording shit from the internet with a line-in, but recording actual sound with a mic is not so great. The rhythm is always slightly off. I was hoping for some recomendations on either free downloadable audio recording software and/or reasonably priced audio recording software. I have a decent computer. It's a 2008 Gateway Home Edition w/ a Centrino processor and no upgraded anything. Recomendations on good mics to use would also be appreciated. I'm mainly interested in recording instruments such as guitars or... anything really. Random noises too. Appreciate the help.

Hey, im not a recorder/DJ, but i do PA stuff and sometimes record live shows.
im using a PreSonus FirePOD and its software for that.
The upside on this is that you have direct 3pin XLR inputs which allow no induction of stuff from like cellphones or other devices with active radio link.
The recording outcome is of great quality and can the be edited in any other audio editing software such as CuBase, Adobe Soundbooth or similar.

I hope that helped you a bit :D

If you got $$ to spend go for Ableton Live, if not check out Cockos Reaper, all record audio and so much more. I use Ableton my self, its so versatile if ya willing to spend a while learning.
