What would it be?
If you wanted to get someone who had never heard industrial hooked in the first 30 seconds, what song would you play for them? Not necessarily the best song ever, but a song that really starts out strong. I think it's hard because a lot of great songs in the genre build over a minute or two before really going.
Something like Grendels Harsh Generation, maybe. Although I don't know if that really would grab someone who's never heard industrial music before.
Thoughts?

Agree that Grendel would be a good artist. But I would choose "hate this" instead. Or "Agonoize- running".

Hey Drewthetexan. A very good concept. I made the previous post before I read yours and there seems, To be an offbeat coincidence. I may have to do some more research on this topic. Later Dude.

Hey Ya, I had to put some deep thought into this conceptual question. While I am enjoying the constant stream from DG. This new generation of industrial and other satelites in alternative music. I still have to bear in mind so much of that early generation of industrial I have on vynil. Back in the days when you if you wanted to hear that new track. You would have to hear it from a friend then buy it or make a tape. Crazy then, just like now. With what I am learning now and what I know from before. I'm having a hard time favoring either time line. I have not heard anything from Grendel yet. But my choice will usually change every day when I hear a number like Drogen Sex Und Industrial. All three of those mixes are awsome and they would be the bar level today like Counterpart yesterday and maybe, You Men ( live ) Tomorrow. It changes every day. A damn tough question. But now its time to cut up some pallets for fire wood. Life is fun sometimes. Later.

Really tough question...
This may be a little bit of a cop-out, but it depends on the person. I know quite a few audiophiles who weren't very impressed by this kind of music (even the classics) when I played a few tracks for them, so I would take a lot of careful consideration in the future when approaching such people...
However, for your average person who is curious about the genre/subgenres, I'd probably start with something by Pulse Legion... Either Never Over or Who Decides 2.0... I suppose I'm a bit biased (one of my favorite bands) but, aren't we all?

Hmm, I dont think its possible. The differences within the whole industrial genre can be so big. I could let someone listen to ESC and he might love it, but that doesnt mean hes gonna like a band like Uberbyte or Aesthetic Perfection.
But if I would have to pick, there are some bands that I would probably play first to someone if Im gonna try and get him hooked. Id go for Suicide Commando, Grendel, ESC, Reaper and Tactical Sekt. And mainly because that are the bands that I instantly loved. So I guess its more trying to get someone hooked on my personal taste then anything else.

I think it really depends what they like today.
If they like death metal today, I'd go with something like Psyclon 9.
If they like pop/rock music, I'd probably go more with something like Parallel Project, VNV, Assemblage 23, etc
You're better off trying to match something close to what they like today, nobody that currently listens to Nelly is going to like ESC or Grendel, IMO.

I'd say for me it would be Combichrist's "This shit will fuck you up." Even though they're nowhere near my favorites (hell.. to me, Panzer AG > Combichrist x10000).
Still, I feel they have a certain something that could help convert noobies to the genre. Their music is aggressive dancey and gives them a idea of the genre, though then I would introduce them to ones I find more talented, Suicide Commando, Heimataerde, Tactical Sekt, FLA, Manufactura, so on.
Also Shirow speaks truth, the ones I have converted so far, were mostly metal fans, and seem to be more into the aggressive groups, not so much the others like VNV, Assemblage 23, and Apop, for them it's more Psyclon Nine, Suicide Commando, Terrorfakt, X-fusion.

That depends. I know plenty of people who are pretty open about their music taste. People that like Nelly and who also like ESC or Grendel. Kinda depends on how close minded they are though. Plenty of other people who like only a specific genre and everything that isnt part of that genre sucks so hard in their opinion. Then again, its a waste of time to try and get those people hooked on other types of music. They have their minds made up before they have even listened to it.

Like Lexus said. It sure does depend on how closed or open minded people are when trying to interest them into such a different genre of music. So many times I have put on some interesting tracks that would thrill me when listening to it when alone and really loud. Yet depending on their frame of mind or what they normally like to hear would show on their expression. However, from the album Twitch by Ministry. I got some pretty good responses at a social gathering where I set up my turntable. Always an Angel There with a few other tracks really interested some people. As well I got good comments on Abbo Dabbo by Portion Control. I really must get some of that stuff converted to digital.

Funny, I had some friends who didnt like my music cuz of the artwork. Normally they would have loved it, since they also like D'n'B, Hardcore, Hardstyle and some other related genres. But then they saw the somewhat explicit artwork (girls either naked or prancing around in some leather gear) and they where all like 'thats sexist' and shit. They didnt wanna listen to music that promotes a sexist image of women.... To be honest I was kinda disappointed in those friends, especially if you use such a fucking lame excuse to not like music.
