Repo. The Genetic Opera. With Ogre.
« on: June 26, 2012, 09:28:03 PM »
I remember watching Repo Men back in the early 80's with Emilio Esteves.  That was pretty cool back then with the punk music to go along with it.

But tonight I just finished watching a flick called Repo. The Genetic Opera.

Opera is one genre of music I have a hard time with.  However.  This flick managed to do a damn good job of mixing opera like lyrics with industrial sounding music with a lot of cool gothic and industrial images to go along with how society has evolved.

It is from the producers of Saw.  Which I have not seen any of those yet.  But this is about the most industrial of chud flicks I have seen as it is based on what the world could become as it is already part way there.

Ogre is in it and as the dvd was given to me by a true Skinny Puppy conesuire.  I decided that this night would be the night to watch it as yesterday was the internation Goth day.   'ohGr' had a great part and he played it like the professional he is.  And then to see and hear him in the commentary of the making of the film was the icing on the cake.   I was real proud in a happy way to see Ogre in this film.

To summerize.  Without going in to much of what the screen play was like in its extremely blood like statement of how human culture is going.  It is like a real life cartoon within a sur real society that very well does resemble parts of our messed up world now.
It kept getting better as it went along.  The screen play, the performance, and the music.  The most modern / industrial music opera film feature that has been done yet.  I was thinking when watching it that it is like between Bladerunner and the Rocky Horror Picture Show.  And then it was commentated as such in the commentary.  That really tricked me out.

If there is any interest in a slighty more modern, damaged world,  science fiction / film noir.
I would recommend this film with its crazy ass screan play.
And I would look forward to any comments from any if seen already or after seeing.

Cheers and enjoy.

I enjoyed Repo.  It was a bit odd for me since I don't care much for operas.  I haven't seen it in awhile though maybe I'll watch it again or at least watch the commentary.  Another one to watch is The Gene Generation, not that great of a story but I like the look and feel of it.  Here are some more comments about Repo and The Gene Generation.

Hey Jib.  Good day.
Thanks for that comment and the link to the forum already based on this flick and TGG.
I know what you mean.  Its not that I dont much care for operas.  It is more like that I have never even tried to watch one as I have never had any interest in them.  And I was even having a bit of an effort at the beginning of Repo.  But the more I watched it the more intense it did become.  And then to watch the commentary gave it even more meaning for me.
But now I am definately going to look for the Gene generation.
Anyways, I just got back from Ireland and the UK.  Having to take the Sea Rose FPSO over to Belfast was a good gig.  More of the industrial specialist stuff that needed to be done.  Basically making the entire ship gas free before it could go into the dry dock.  Some of the days were real dirty with anti contamination gear like crazy.  But a lot of easy time waiting for work permits and having nice long coffee breaks and lunch breaks.  Now I am back to working underwater untill August when I am back on Hibernia.
Again Jib thanks for that and stay cool eh.
Hunter.
