Some of the guys that frequent this board that actually create music - what do you use to create it? I've been contemplating getting back into the creation side of music after a 10 year hiatus.. looking for some suggestions.

I just use FL studio with a midi keyboard. It's a pretty good way to get started anyways. Its relatively cheap and some of the plugins you can buy are actually pretty awesome and easy to use. Of course, I'd prefer pro-tools, but I don't have 10k sitting around to blow on music software and analog fx racks ;D

Just posted basically this in another thread but, Cubase and Reason rewired are my tools of choice ;)
@Deadseraph: If you wanna work in pro-tools, the cheapest way to go is using Pro-Tools M-Powered with M-Audio interfaces. The software cost is about $250~ and you can get some pretty good basic interfaces for about the same price. I have a M-Audio Ozonic that i use with pro-tools regularly and i love it! The only bad thing I'd say about it is that the pre-amps in it suck, so I end up using outboard pres.... but still a much cheaper way of doing PT than using Digi hardware haha

my midi controllers are both m-audio, one is a keystation-88es, the other is the ozonic which i simply love :) most of the synths i use are softsynths, but i can't think of the names off-hand... i'll post what i use when i'm back home later.... my favorite synth to use has always been the Nord Lead though, and the Novation V-Station.... Tom Shear of A23 has a lot of great info on his sites about the software and hardware he uses, here's a couple links from him that i've found great: http://assemblage23.com/studiotech.htmlhttp://waveformless.blogspot.com/Hope this helps get ya going again, Shirow, i'd love to hear some of what you create ;)

Nice one Shirow.. In my minds ear I heard that covered by Combichrist. Pro Tools as a standard....hardware gets expensive...actually everything about Pro Tools (Digidesign) is expensive. I'm using PC..and Har fuckin har to all you Mac puritans. But yes PC is shitish, but I like rebeling against Mac...even if I shoot myself in both feet. One day when I have more cash, I'll go for the beastiest Mac and Pro Tools HD. The difference between the 2 versions of PT isthat you can have waaaaaay more channels....and your computer doesnt cough a flegm ball every time you add some serious software instrumentation to it. Hardware is better for messing about and inovating your own sounds. i've become lazy and just browse though thousands of presets. If you're going to get any synth software..GET NATIVE INSTRUMENTS...rob papen and arturia's lil synths too.
Am I boring you yet.....seriously..i can talk about this shit all day...anything but work man.......oh yeah...work..
