It's a shame you feel that way, they were the first industrial band i got into and have loved every album they have done and this was no exception for me i think it still lives up to there style.

I was raised listening to Kraftwerk, And One, and Rammstein,
and as the "genre" got more defined, so did my musical taste.
Certain bands manage to evolve and grow while maintaining
their uniqueness, such as wumpscut for example, feindflug, or even funker vogt...
but with VNV ("Advance and Follow v2" being my first album)
i feel as if their uniqueness has been lost somewhere along the way
seen from a DJs perspective one has to see what moves the crowd,
what makes people want to dance, not just the new crowd but also
the "oldschool", the regulars...

From this new album, the only song i can somewhat see moving
people on the dancefloor is "Art of Conflict" ...  while "where there is light"
would completely empty any room ....

As a follower, i appreciate the dedication, very well elaborated
sounds, and thought out lyrics, but i think the overall sound has gotten
"too spiritual"

Okay, so after once through, I have good and bad things to say about it.

THE GOOD: The album starts off wonderfully (as expected) and is fresh enough that the old tricks still feel new.

THE BAD: At about the half-way point, the sound gets to be pretty mediocre and rehashed. I think it's just that there is so much going on sonically that only the basic (i.e. repetitive) elements draw attention to themselves.

The notable exceptions are the last two tracks. From My Hands feels like it wants to draw the same emotional response Illusion from Judgment did. Only it doesn't quite get the intensity high enough and ends up being a little disappointing. Where There Is Light on the other hand is a perfect example of what VNV Nation can do. It hits every mark I set and finishes the album out beautifully.

I'm not reviewing the lyrical content as I've not had a chance to examine them at all. But just on a "sit-and-listen" basis, I give it a 4/5. If the composition was as good as it was on Judgment, it'd be more than a 5/5.

EDIT: After a second pass, the middle of the album is less noticeably repetitive. Maybe I'm just getting tuned into the flow.

DNA, they said, was the key to our rebirth. Tiny, invisible microbes pulled from the soil of our war-torn era and combined with a metal-borne virus to create a new breed of monster.

Something more than man, something less than human.

Once I've nailed this thing down (looked at the lyrics, thought about the intent, ect.), I certainly will.

VNV Nation recycles?!?
Quote
The latest release OF FAITH, POWER, AND GLORY set to release on June 23rd in the United States touts itself as the first CD release with the lowest carbon footprint ever on a major label release. The new album is packaged in 100% fully reclaimed and recycled material, along with water based inks and glues.

Sure explains the lyrics to Futureperfect's Carbon, huh?

Well, that settles it, I'm going to stop burning my trash...
