I work at a call center. I annoy people. But thats aside the point. Im not a goth, or a rivethead or anything.

Ive long since decided that its stupid and pointless to try to belong to a certain group purely based on clothing. Especially if the purpose of the group is supposed to be different from the rest. How can you be different if you got to follow the same dress code as the rest of the group?

So I just wear what I like to wear. Levi jeans and hoodies mostly. And if possible a hoodie from a band that I like. Same for tshirts.

That said, I do like to wear dark/black clothes. And I recently developed an obsession for gasmasks and goggles. They are fricking sexy.

i am a training specialist and command operations manager for a large security corporation.  We do everything from PSD to private investigation and private intelligence.  We also have a division that offers general security services to businesses.  i spent about 8 years in law eforcement before then.  I was in the army before then.

I used to be one of those victorian goth types.  i am too lazy now.  i go out (when i rarely go out maybe once a year) and i look how I look all of the time.  Usually some type of tactical pants and t-shirt.  of course, i am not wearing a skinny puppy t-shirt at work, but you get the point.  I look boring until you talk to me.  then it becomes obvious how geeky i am.  and that means boring to any one other than a geek - who are the only people that i have any time for any way.

Its just one r and I suppose thatd be the term for someone like me working at starbucks in seattle. I've grown more fond of the industrial scene than goth... but then again ive got enough angst i seem goth by default

That's the paradox of every subculture - people want to be different than others and invent a certain dress-code to be distinguished by the reast of population and to be recognised by other followers at the same time. You can compare them to different tribes, clans or social classes where people traditionally wore specific clothes or jewellery regarding their status. Today we differ the same way, only the cryteria have changed.
I have never tried to fit in to certain group- I was always wearing black, listened to different music, so I can't say I belong to any subculture. Of course, I have some preferences in clothing as in everything else, but the occasions, money issue and impossibilty to find the desired stuff where I live don't allow me to wear everything I'd like. So, my dresscode is black and simple.
On the other hand, you can't wear extreme clothes and go to the grocery shop or to work in school or bank dressed like that. I think extreme clothes are for clubbing and concerts and that they lose their point if used every day (especially if you have 2-3 dresses that you use constantly).

Yeah only most sub cultures arent all about 'being unique and different from the rest'. Most subcultures dont take pride in being different that much. Goths basically advertise with it. Join us and show the world how different you are!

And arent extreme clothes slightly cumbersome for clubbing?
